This position is based out of Huntsville, AL. Ability to travel/relocate to the Huntsville area will be a necessity. 

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work from the ground and may assist in aerial devices and ladders
  • Clears work area and maintains safe job site conditions.
  • Excavates to assist in the installation of structures or fiber as required.
  • Will have contact with public and private property owners to communicate work to be performed.
  • Participates in company training of all regional safety guidelines and is required to perform all work by the regional safety policies.
  • Assembles material on the ground to be installed by the line person or apprentice.
  • Operates various tools for the work (manual digging devices, backhoe, mini-ex, wrenches, hammers, jack hammer and hand-line etc.).
  • Works around hazardous equipment.
  • Works near energized parts or equipment.
  • All other duties as required or requested by Supervisors and/or Foremen.
  • Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions

Qualifications

  • Experience in UG and/or Aerial coax and fiber construction
  • Current CDL preferred but not required
  • Safely enter and exit the rear-end of the bucket trucks
  • Able to follow directions, work safely & productively
  • Endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight (8) or ten (10) hour day according to the schedule.
  • Capable of working long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc.
  • Due to the nature of our business, employees are required to work on a variety of different properties, including school grounds, businesses and private property. Therefore, individuals convicted of a sexual offense that limits or restricts the areas to which they may go or who are a registered sex offender in any state or national database do not meet the qualifications for employment.
  • Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and the requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time
  • Wear necessary PPE as required by company policy
  • Enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day
  • Be able to stand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, cold
  • Able to traverse various terrains
  • Communicate well with others
  • Maintain attention during dangerous tasks
  • Lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis, and up to 10 pounds on a continuous basis
  • Sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
